PopMe privacy policy
Effective 29 September 2026
This privacy policy is for PopMe, the game published on Google Play by the developer Black 4 Square (application ID com.BlackSquare.FindMe, formerly named FindMe), and for its web version at findme.black4square.com. Black 4 Square is the name under which Daniil Denysov, an independent developer in Ukraine, publishes games.
In short
- PopMe creates an anonymous player account so your scores can reach the leaderboards.
- Signing in with Google is optional. If you do, we receive your Google email address and name, and your name may become your public nickname.
- Your nickname and best scores are public on the leaderboards.
- PopMe shows ads from Google, which uses device identifiers or cookies. Where the law requires it, you are asked first.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- You can delete your account at any time in the game or by email: delete your account.
Who we are
PopMe is developed and published by Daniil Denysov under the name Black 4 Square, which is also the developer name on the game's Google Play listing. Black 4 Square is not a registered company: Daniil Denysov is responsible for your personal information (the "data controller"). In this policy "we" and "us" mean Daniil Denysov publishing as Black 4 Square. Contact: contact@black4square.com.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the PopMe app for Android, distributed on Google Play as com.BlackSquare.FindMe, and the PopMe web version at findme.black4square.com. The game was called FindMe before it was renamed PopMe; this policy applies to both names. The Black 4 Square website itself is covered by the website privacy policy.
What we collect
Your player account
The first time you open PopMe, it creates an anonymous player account with our backend provider, Cloudflare. The account is a random identifier that does not contain your name. The keys that keep you signed in are stored on your device.
Google sign-in (optional)
If you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares your email address, your name, your profile picture address and your Google account identifier with the game's account system. We use them to link your progress to your Google account so you can keep it across devices. If your Google name is 3 to 16 letters, digits, spaces, hyphens or underscores and nobody else uses it, it becomes your nickname and is shown publicly. You can change it in the game.
Nickname
Every player has a nickname shown on the leaderboards: an automatic one such as "Player 12345", your Google name, or one you choose. When you choose a nickname, it is checked against our own list of offensive words, and the nickname text may also be sent to PurgoMalum, a free profanity-filter service. Only the nickname text is sent.
Game results
When a game ends we store the game mode, score, tiles, best streak, best chain, how long the game lasted, the game version and the time. Your best result in each mode, together with your nickname, is shown publicly on the leaderboards. Results that could not be sent yet are kept on your device until they can be.
Advertising
The Android app shows ads from Google AdMob and the web version shows ads from Google AdSense for games. To show, limit and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google processes information such as your device's advertising identifier or cookies, your IP address and details about your device and browser. Ads are personalised only where you have agreed to it or the law allows it. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and some US states, Google's consent message asks for your choice, and you can change it later in the game under Settings → Your privacy choices. On Android you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.
Technical information
Our service providers receive technical information when the game talks to them, such as your IP address, device or browser type and the time of the request, and keep it in their logs for security and troubleshooting. The Unity game engine may send Unity anonymous hardware statistics such as device model, operating system and graphics card.
Stored on your device
PopMe keeps your settings (sound, vibration, language, colours), sign-in keys and unsent results on your device, or in your browser's storage on the web. They stay there until you uninstall the game or clear the site's data.
How we use it and why
- To run the game, your account and the leaderboards: this is necessary to provide the game you asked to play.
- To keep nicknames appropriate and stop cheating and abuse: our legitimate interest in a fair and safe game.
- To show ads that pay for the game: your consent for personalised ads where it is required, otherwise our legitimate interest in funding a free game.
- To answer your requests: to meet our legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We use these service providers, which process information on our behalf or under their own policies:
- Cloudflare: accounts, sign-in and the game database (Cloudflare Workers and D1). Privacy policy
- Google: Google sign-in, AdMob, AdSense and the consent message. Privacy policy, how Google uses data from apps and sites
- PurgoMalum: nickname profanity check. Website
- Unity Technologies: the game engine. Privacy policy
- GitHub and Cloudflare: host and deliver the web version. GitHub privacy statement, Cloudflare privacy policy
Other players see your nickname and leaderboard results. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for any other purpose, unless the law requires us to.
These providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, the transfer is protected by safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, nickname and game results for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account in the game, they are deleted immediately; if you ask us by email, we delete them within 30 days. Copies in our providers' logs and backups are removed automatically on their own schedules. Information on your device stays until you remove the game or clear its data.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, or to limit or object to how we use it, and where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time. You can change your nickname in the game and your ad choices under Settings → Your privacy choices. To make a request, email contact@black4square.com. We reply within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Deleting your account
You can delete your player account and everything linked to it at any time: in PopMe, open Account → Delete account, type your nickname and tap Delete forever. The steps, and how to ask by email instead, are on the account deletion page.
Children
PopMe is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections, and the game can only read or change its data through checked database functions, never directly. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will publish the new version on this page with a new effective date. If the changes are significant, we will also tell you in the game.
